Devlog Ordinance ROLUS Games
1 min READ
Roughly a third of my time this month has been spent getting Rolus AI up to a new standard. Of that time, maybe about 20% of it was actually spent developing the new AI code, with all the other time spent fucking around and finding out. Now that it’s mostly done, I can start moving on to other game-related things.
Which essentially translates to entering the “Finish the rest of the game” stage.
This month had quite a big breakthrough with netcode. It works!… Yes, it works. No, don’t look at me like that. It’s quite real this time. We swear.
Now that that’s done though, we can finally begin doing actual game development with Ordinance.
Here’s some premium video footage of the (mostly) finished netcode in action.
The test map is an ugly bastard and I am truly ashamed. It’s a start though, and it needed to start somewhere.
Over the next few months I’ll be trying to clean it up into something that might resemble what the real game will look like.
Truth be told, I’m not entirely sure what needs testing just yet. Somehow, in the moment, it gets a lot harder to remember why you were doing stuff in the first place.
I know it will feature some snazzy platforming sections to test out our movement though. Baby’s first surf map and all.
We did some more work on the Inventory UI stuff. It’s still just placeholders and mockups, but the functionality is getting there. Our biggest concern is simply making sure we get the UI to feel snappy, responsive and not feel shit.
Here’s some footage. Please comment “boo” to encourage us to make the game faster.
